When I was 15 years old I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. Since then I've received nothing but the best care from doctors and hospitals in Canada. I've had to have many upon many tests, been on countless trips to the emergency room and been hospitalized three times for issues concerning my colitis. This is including two major surgeries. While the stress of these times wore on me and my family, we never had to worry about not being able to afford the bill at the end of it. Everything or mostly everything was always covered.
I always thanked god at the end of these situations that I live in Canada where my health care is so well covered, because I know, had I been living in the states I would never have been able to afford the care I'm given here. I had the choice of my gastroenterologist, who is nothing short of a miracle worker, and I couldn't ask for a better doctor. It greatly upsets me to know that for the time being, I couldn't move back to the States soley for health care reasons. Because of my condition I'd never get health coverage, and if I perhaps had some stroke of luck that someone would actually cover me, I'd never be able to afford the care nor the plan.
And, that my family living in the States can't get the same medicine I'm on covered at all for them. I pray that this makes a difference because there are way too many people in the United States not receiving the care they need based on their socio-economic or health situations. The people who really, truly need the help can't get it. The system needs to change.
