Health Care From Day 1

My wife, our daughter and I emigrated to Calgary Alberta in 1969. On the drive from NYC, our daughter developed a severe stomach ailment. We stopped in a small town in Michigan and a doctor suggested that we get into Canada as quickly as possible. We continued on to Calgary and crossed the border at Coutts, Montana. When Melissa got very sick in the Canadian Immigration Offices, they just passed us through.

We arrived in Calgary and had my brother's doctor meet us at his home. One look at her and he admitted her to the hospital. She was given a private room and the finest of medical treatment. 15 days later, she was discharged.

In the next 40 years we have had several major medical problems including hospitalization. My wife's diabetes, gall bladder surgery, intestinal bypass and a reversal of this surgery, a second daughter.

Now as retired seniors, we continue to receive all of our family check-ups at no cost. Hospital stays at no cost. Our drugs are no more than $25 per prescription with up to 3 months supply. We don't pay any premiums. It's free.

These are the benefits of single payer Health Plans in Canada.

Now my wife and I are considering returning to the States, but not until American's have real Health Reform.
