I am an American citizen and grew up in the U.S until the age of 18. My wife, although a Canadian citizen, grew up in the U.S. until the age of 18 as well. We both have the majority of our families still residing in the U.S. and some of them with chronic illness. My wife, in Canada, suffers from a chronic illness as well but here is the difference- we have not suffered financially from it! My wife's Aunt lost their home and their daughter because her daughter had liver cancer. Her Aunt & Uncle both had decent union jobs with decent health insurance but IT WAS NOT ENOUGH!!!!! My sister's family live in a state where health insurance premiums are so high that it is almost as much as their rent! This is so ridiculous & I cannot fathom why there is so much opposition to reform.
MY FELLOW AMERICAN BROTHERS & SISTERS ---- STOP BEING AFRAID TO CHANGE A SYSTEM THAT IS FAILING YOU!!!!!!! DON'T BELIEVE THE LIES BEING TOLD ABOUT OUR INFERIOR SYSTEM!!!! CANADIANS LOVE THEIR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!! WE LOVE IT!!! In fact, with my wife's illness, we constantly use the system & have never encountered anything but the best of care & hey! WE PAY NOTHING! In Alberta, we don't even pay the small premiums paid in other provinces! WE ALL BENEFIT from Alberta's wealth! NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES!
Although it is true that we pay slightly higher taxes here, SO WHAT!!!! IT IS DEFINITELY NOT AS MUCH AS WHAT YOU PAY YEARLY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUMS! THINK ABOUT IT! My sister pays $900 a month for family premiums, which is $10,800 per year. Even if your taxes did go up, it wouldn't equal that crazy amount! The cost is shared by all so the cost is less. No one will profit from your illness! You say this is socialism, SO WHAT if it is!! You can still have a society that practices capitalism, democracy and even a little socialism! That's what it's like to live in Canada. We are not Socialists! Just basic Christian Values, yeah?? What it boils down to is:
WHAT KIND OF SOCIETY DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN???? DON'T LET THE INSURANCE COMPANIES PROFIT FROM YOUR ILLNESS! Know what? Canadians think their health care system is what separates the two countries, what makes Canada the better place to live and they are right! You would too if you experienced the difference it makes to your standard of living! PLEASE WAKE UP!
